Block Rep Program
Block Representatives are dedicated volunteers who strive to improve the quality of life for all residents of MorningSide. They work with street ambassadors to communicate relevant information, organize events, and address local issues involving blight, noise, and safety.
If you become a block representative, you’ll be responsible for:
Keep a watchful eye on your block. Are new neighbors moving in that we should welcome to the community? Are vacant homes being rehabbed? Is there suspicious activity going on or evidence of squatters? Are some neighbors not maintaining their property? Are there good neighbors facing a crisis who could use some help?
Getting contact information from neighbors. MorningSide has monthly meetings and special events. Some neighbors may be interested in this information; others will not. We want to create a two-way flow of information: from the organization to the residents, and from the residents to the organization.
Reporting your findings to your street ambassador regularly. Each street has an ambassador from the MorningSide board, who will take this info so that as an organization we can identify and address problems in a timely and effective way, as well as support the positive things happening in our community.
What you won’t be responsible for:
Confronting problematic neighbors directly. We’ll never ask you to put yourself in a situation you’re not comfortable with, but we will give you guidance in approaching delicate situations.
Doing it alone. The buddy system works, and if you want a co-captain to help cover your block, we’ll help you find one. At the end of the day, our community leaders have your back.
Sign up and get a free trash picker-upper
Trash picker-uppers are a great entry point to getting out on your block, talking to neighbors, and getting a sense of what’s going on. Sign up to be a block representative and you’ll get one for free, while supplies last!
