Another Award-Winning Restaurant to Open on East Warren Next Year

By this time next year, E. Warren will boast not one, but two award-winning bricks-and-mortar restaurants. The first to announce was East African-themed Baobab Fare, as we reported in the April 2024 issue of this newsletter. Now a Moroccan restaurant, Saffron DaTwah, recipient of the Food Network’s “Chopped” award and two-time finalist for the prestigious James Beard Award, will open a second location in early 2025 at 16620 E. Warren.

Palestinian owner and chef Omar Anani opened Saffron DaTwah in 2019 on Gratiot Avenue. He takes an eclectic approach to his menu and plans to introduce new items like a Middle Eastern version of pizza. If it’s a hit, we’ll likely see it on the menu at his new restaurant.

Omar is also a forward-thinking employer who offers health care benefits, shared tips, and paid time off to his workers. He even plans to renovate the second floor of the newly-purchased building to provide subsidized housing for his employees.

You can find out more about Saffron DaTwah and Omar Anani in Bridge Detroit here.
