Bike Ride Showcases Creative Land Use in Morningside

Another Morningside bike ride is in the books.

On Saturday, September 26th, about 20 Morningside residents met up at Three Mile Park to get some exercise and explore the neighborhood.

Riders were blessed with sunny skies, a nice breeze, and temps in the high 70s — perfect weather for cruising, listening to music, and waving at neighbors.

There were six different stops on the bike ride:

  1. Three Mile-Munich Park

  2. Emerald Gardens MorningSide

  3. E. Warren Tool Library

  4. Somerset Orchard

  5. Featherstone Garden

  6. Detroit Vineyards

The focus of the ride was creative land use. To that end, five of the six stops showcased vacant land being repurposed into something new — a park, an orchard, two gardens, and a vineyard. And a representative of each stop was available on site to discuss the project and take questions from participants.

Photographer (and bike enthusiast) Jim West was there to document the trip. Check out his photos below!
