Our own Lonell Williams, Dean of Culture for the 11th Grade at East English Village Preparatory Academy at Finney, was recently named Administrator of the Year by the Organization of School Administrators and Supervisors (OSAS).

Mr. Williams received the honor at the 9th Annual Champions of Education gala fundraiser at Mumford High School on Wednesday, February 1. The event, a collaboration between the Detroit Public Schools Community District (DPSCD) and the DPS Foundation, celebrated its teachers, administrators, and staff. Emceed by FOX 2 anchor/reporter and DPS alum Josh Landon, the gala included a VIP reception, awards ceremony, and dinner.

“This is more than a job, more than a paycheck,” DPSCD Superintendent Dr. Nikolai Vitti told the audience of nominated teachers, educators, school-based leaders, and support staff. “It’s about passion and belief that our children deserve more than they receive, and you all make that happen.”

Mr. Williams has worked in a variety of important roles with the District including Physical Education/Health Teacher, Basketball Coach, Athletic Director, Community Engagement Leader, and now Dean of Culture. He is a native Detroiter and a 1991 Graduate of Detroit Chadsey High School. Mr. Williams attended Olivet College, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Secondary Education in 1995 and Master’s Degree in the Arts of Teaching in 2004.

Mr. Williams says that one of the things he loves about Detroit is the hard working families and communities that make Detroit a great place to live and visit. He also loves engaging with communities, parents, and the District staff in positive conversations about DPSCD and the vision of the Superintendent.
