Give Something Away or Get Something Free Through “Buy Nothing” Group

If you're on Facebook and live in Morningside, East English Village, or Cornerstone Village, consider joining our local “Buy Nothing” group - a grassroots initiative where neighbors share, give, and receive goods for free. Whether you’re looking to pass along items you no longer need or seeking something to help with a project or your household, Buy Nothing offers a simple way to connect with others in our neighborhood while saving money and reducing your own waste and clutter.

How it works: You post something you have to give away or something you are looking for. Neighbors comment if they are interested in what you have or can provide what you need. From there, message each other to arrange pick up - most commonly, easy and contactless porch pick up.

East English Village resident Susan Rutherford says, "I think that Buy Nothing groups are a great example of direct action - people in the community helping each other. I find it so satisfying to know that I am giving this thing that I longer want to someone that really wants it!

“I also love that people in the community feel empowered to ask for things that they need. And it is so heartening to see the generous responses. It’s a daily reminder that so many of us are kind and generous. Having a platform to express one’s kindness and generosity is a gift. I’ve received so many lovely things and have been able to give many too.

On another level it is good for the planet! The more stuff we keep out of landfill, the better for all of us."
