In Loving Memory of Lenora McElrath
Lenora McElrath became part of the MorningSide community, which she loved, over 30 years ago, having moved from the west side while proclaiming “they got nothin’ on us!”
She was active with the MEC CB radio patrol and served as the secretary and “unrecognized” leader and “mom” of the Bedford Block Club, keeping its members in line while serving as comic relief for us all.
Lenora was the “go-to girl” for the Bedford group. Any issues we had, you called Lenora and she took care of them while diplomatically (NOT!) providing education and one of her famous lectures on how to use See-Click-Fix, never failing to mention that our fingers weren’t broken! And I won’t even begin to mention the sometimes (often times!) colorful language that was just her.
When her health permitted, Lenora was always part of the clean-up campaigns, and when not able to participate, she still showed up and cheered the team on. She rarely missed a MorningSide meeting.
Lenora never forgot a birthday or failed to check in on us when we were ill following surgery, with Covid, or just generally under the weather. She was always there to lend an ear. She was a community advocate, an inspiration to our block, and the glue that held us together.
To know her was to love her. I know I speak for all of Bedford Block Club and those whose lives she impacted in saying she will be missed. It was a privilege to have known you, Lenora. Rest in peace our dear friend, and may you fly with the angels.
