New Master Plan for Detroit Taking Shape, and We Are the Ones to Shape It
When we first introduced the Detroit Master Plan of Policies in the May and June 2024 issues of The Morningsider, the plan was little more than an idea and an intention. The intention was to update our vision for Detroit in a way that would address residents’ current needs and concerns. So much has changed since 2009, when the Master Plan was last revised, and a fresh look at our city’s future is long overdue.
It appears that those spearheading this process are sincere in wanting residents to have a seat at the table. From July through October last year, the City Voices Tour attended community events in neighborhoods around the city, including Morningside and East English Village, soliciting our ideas about what we want Detroit to look like over the next ten to twenty years and what new policies will be needed to make the vision a reality.
This month the city begins drilling down on four different policy areas. Public in-person meetings are being held at the Joseph Walker Williams Community Center at 8431 Rosa Parks Blvd. Each meeting is expected to last about two hours.
