From Pain to Purpose: The Faith-Fueled Mission of Carol Davis
In the quiet moments of reflection, amidst the tumultuous waves of grief, Carol Davis, owner of Davis Legacy, LLC, has hope to help others. Her journey to become a certified Grief and Loss Coach began after a short period of three successive deaths of close family members, marked by the profound loss of her son in a tragic accident. Finding her “purpose beyond her pain,” has allowed Carol to guide others to build their own strength of the human spirit through the power of faith and community support.
Carol recounts how she and her family had to go on with everyday activities, while her colleagues, fellow church members and friends wondered how. Over time, she was able to share her personal journey of grief, and it began to resonate deeply with others navigating the waters of loss and bereavement.
"It started with sharing my story about how God was the one that strengthened us, comforted us throughout this time, us having the faith and believing, no matter what has happened in our lives, that He was the one that was going to carry us through and heal these hearts.”
That approach includes making clear that her role as a certified coach is not a substitute for a licensed therapist or a counselor. Carol works as a faith-based Grief Coach helping people take action because she believes that there is a “natural part that we also have to do, the courage to get a therapist, the courage to find a grief coach, whatever that looks like for you, that's going to help you heal in a healthy way.”
In early December 2024, Carol hosted her free, Let the Healing Begin Grief Support Workshop at the Detroit Public Library Jefferson Branch. The workshop complements her fee-based 12-week grief coaching program and reflects her holistic perspective on grief management. It encompasses emotional management, self-discovery, and actionable steps tailored to the individual's journey. She emphasizes the importance of documenting the grief journey as a tool for reflection and progress and offers a free Comfort Care Calendar on her website. Moreover, Carol's program is not just for those directly affected by the death of a loved one but also embraces those experiencing losses of all types.
By integrating faith, community support, and professional guidance, she offers a “safe space” for those struggling to find their way through the fog of loss. Carol’s mission is not just listening about grief and loss; it's about finding a way to heal in a healthy way, reminding us that even in our darkest ‘moments, we are not alone.
