Greening of Detroit Casts Shade – the Leafy Kind – on Morningside
This month, The Greening of Detroit brought a splash of green to the Morningside community, planting 92 beautiful new trees around Ronald Brown Academy! A huge shoutout goes to Morningside resident, Vaughn Arrington, who led the way by submitting the neighborhood’s tree planting application and teaming up with the Greening of Detroit to make this happen.
The planting efforts began on October 30th, when Ronald Brown Academy’s 8th graders took part in a hands-on tree planting workshop right on their campus. These young environmentalists rolled up their sleeves, learning all about tree planting, and even planted three trees themselves!
On October 31st, the community showed up in full force, when 221 volunteers from local companies and community organizations came together to make the neighborhood a little greener. Trees were planted at Ronald Brown Academy and nearby streets — Haverhill, Buckingham, Berkshire, Chatsworth, and Balfour.
Special thanks to Eric Dueweke, Charon Nogues, and Gary Gray, who joined Vaughn from the community to support this incredible event. Coffee from Morningside Cafe was also enjoyed at the event (thanks Jeffrey for working with us!)
