Time for Tea with Stacey Davis of Stacey’s 2 Day Tea

From the myriad of coffee shops and pod selections available at the grocery store, you may not have guessed that tea is only second to water as the most popular beverage around the world. Stacey Davis, owner and artisan tea maker of Stacey’s 2 Day Tea is gaining her own neighborhood fan base.

The popular, proprietary citrus-honey blend, ready-to-drink tea is finding space in our local restaurants and java shops like Rob’s Deli, BeShroomed and Morningside Café. You may also see Stacey greeting customers with a selection of honey or sugar blends, to-go hot tea, 16oz and 32oz bottled tea or the summertime favorite, frozen slushies at openair venues like East Warren Farmers Market. However, the tea-makers attention to service began almost 30 years ago to meet a need for her mother.

Stacey, the second youngest of seven explained, “When my mom was alive, we always had large family get-togethers. Family would come in from Chicago, we’d have all the kids together over at one of our houses and we always had water, pop or Kool-Aid. And as I got older, and Mom’s health declined, we had to cut back on sugar.” That’s when she went to work on a simple, tasty drink replacement, “I didn’t think anyone was going to like it at first. So, I started taking over just a pitcher at a time.” When Stacey’s mother had her first sip of the tea she said, “Oh I like that, what is that?” Stacey told her that it was just iced tea. The family began getting used to tea, too.

“Every holiday they were like, ‘Wow Auntie are you going to bring some of that two-day tea?’” Stacey says she would immediately recruit them to help with hand-squeezing all the citrus fruits for the holiday gallon-sized requests. “It took a lot of work, and it needed to be consistent because one thing about family, they need it to be consistent. It could be something they last tasted from two-years ago, they would remember the taste.”

That type of family input has significantly shaped her entrepreneurial journey. Stacey, who holds both a BS in Management Information Systems and an MBA, also attributes her strong work ethic and innovative drive to early influences from her family. Those characteristics and her own standards for personal development blend together for a high-level of purpose and professionalism. Stacey reflected on role she held in college, as a Computer Literacy Coach at the One Stop Capital Shop, a Small Business Association (SBA) sponsored economic development organization in the Cass Empowerment Zone. While there she saw how Detroiter’s were able to gain insight on how to start and grow a business, but never saw herself becoming the enterpriser she is today. The real tea is: Stacey has used all the ingredients of life, including business closures and corporate layoffs, to persevere in the marketplace and successfully launch Stacey’s 2 Day Tea in 2019.

On a Sunday morning at Morningside Café, Myra, an avid fan of the tea, grabbed two chilled bottles. When asked what she liked about the brand, she answered, ‘I’m really just a natural person, and tea is one of the most natural things, and these are made with honey. It tastes so fresh.” Stacey said it’s gratifying to hear that people seek out her tea.

From family to new friends, Stacey is also looking forward to expanding her production and availability in 2025. For now, you can find Stacey’s 2 day Tea in local retail shops, the upcoming E. Warren Holiday Markets, Nov 30th and Dec 14th at various locations, private events and by special order.
