How Do I Get My Sidewalk Fixed?

Can anyone remember a time when broken sidewalks weren’t a problem in Morningside? Probably not. Between demolitions in years past that destroyed sidewalks, old trees that uprooted them, city crews that damaged them while working on water and gas lines, and the general ravages of time, broken sidewalks are an ongoing problem.

So who is responsible for fixing them, and how do you get the responsible party to do the job? The short answer is – it depends. Sidewalks that were damaged by the city are the city’s responsibility to repair or replace. Damage done by DTE must be repaired by DTE. The bad news for many residents is that the homeowner is responsible for fixing damage caused by normal wear and tear to sidewalks that touch your property.
