Master Plan’s “City Voices Tour’ Coming to Our Neighborhood
In last month’s newsletter, we introduced the city’s first effort to update Detroit’s Master Plan since 2009. According to its dedicated website, the Master Plan of Policies serves as “a roadmap for Detroit’s future. It evaluates where we are now, what we hope to be, and what policies and actions are needed to achieve a shared vision for our future…The City looks very different than it did in 2009 and faces very different challenges than it did then.”
As part of the update, the City Planning and Development Department is hosting a series of community meetings to solicit ideas and opinions from residents, business owners, and other community stakeholders about our city’s budget and development priorities.
Our neighborhood is one of the first to have that opportunity - on Thursday, July 18 at 5:00 p.m. at the East Warren Farmers Market, 16835 E. Warren.
If you’re not able to attend this meeting, there will be opportunities to weigh in on your priorities at meetings in other communities around the city. Plan Detroit says “We will add events and meeting summaries to our website as we go, so be sure to check our engagement calendar often for updates. We will also share information about upcoming meetings at the Department of Neighborhoods monthly district meetings in July and August, as well as on our social media channels.”
The Planning and Development Department also took applications last month for a Master Plan Advisory Group. This committee of 38 Detroiters, which includes Morningside Community Organization’s own President, Eric Dueweke, held their first meeting on June 12th. You can learn more about the other members of the advisory group at plandetroit.com.
