MorningSide “Happy Hour” Hits the Spot

The “corner bar” plays an important role in keeping a community happy. The digital world is simply no substitute for enjoying a drink with friends and neighbors. We certainly felt that at the MorningSide Community Organization’s first “Happy Hour” on Friday, June 10 at the J- Spot, 16200 East Warren. It’s literally the corner bar, at the corner of Bedford.

The J-Spot has been in our community since 2011, and the exterior and interior has maintained much of its original charm. The main bar is long with plenty of seating and small tables throughout the space for those dining in. That night it was a place where everybody knows your name, or at least was willing to learn your name. For many of us, it meant putting a face with a name, sharing food and a few drinks.

During the pandemic shutdown, the J-Spot had an opportunity to upgrade to a fully functioning kitchen and is now known for serving everything from glazed lamb chops to chicken wings, and of course your traditional bar food.

The J-Spot also offers karaoke nights and pool tournaments. The night was a great success, as we supported a neighborhood bar and got to know more of our neighbors. I haven’t laughed so much or had so much in-person face time since the beginning of the pandemic.

I hope you’ll join us next time!
