Why Is This Mess Still Here?

The MorningSider provides us a great opportunity to highlight all the many people working hard to revitalize our neighborhood. At the same time, we must hold institutions and individuals accountable when they impede our progress.

The Red Bow Tie Cleaners on E. Warren at Audubon closed in March, 2020. Water began running from the building since at least January, 2021, creating a mess on E. Warren and serving as a magnet for trash. It has been reported to SeeClickFix, the Mayor’s office, officials from the Department of Neighborhoods, and the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department. A private realtor even got involved.

Employees of DWSD have come out several times, the sidewalk has been torn up, and yet the water keeps running. We have seen no one working to resolve the issue in the past month. Is anyone in the City government paying attention? Why is this taking so long?

We look forward to an explanation from any responsible individual working for the city, which we will publish in the next issue. Stay tuned!
