Send Us Your Nominations for the “Dirty Dozen”
After a few months’ break, the Morningside Blight Brigade is back with renewed energy. Great progress has been made over the last few years toward our goal of eliminating blight in Morningside. Vacant houses that stood empty for years are being rehabbed to go on the market, and some of the most blighted properties have either been cleaned and boarded up or torn down.
But we’re not quite there yet. Blight Brigade 2.0 will take on two major tasks:
Reporting owners of derelict properties and holding them responsible for clean up and maintenance
Organizing neighborhood clean-ups
We’ve decided to focus our initial efforts on a few of the most-blighted vacant homes – the “Dirty Dozen.” We can certainly add more later, but let’s start with a manageable number. If there’s a vacant property near you that you’d like to nominate as the “worst of the worst,” take a photo of the house and send it to morningsidecommunity2@gmail.com. Please include the address as well. If there’s no address visible, give us the address of the house next door or directly across the street, and we can look it up.
Once we’ve collected all the nominations, we’ll determine which dozen to focus our efforts on first. Together we can continue making Morningside a beautiful community.
