Morningside will soon have a beautiful, new mural gracing the grounds of the Three Mile - Munich Park! Artist Jake Dwyer was selected by the Morningside community as the top vote-getter out of a talented group of muralists commissioned by the city of Detroit and its City Walls program.

We MorningSiders know our neighborhood is a special place, and now we have “official” recognition! At the 32nd annual Eastside Extravaganza, held virtually on October 22, MorningSide received the 2020 MOE Better Award as the Most Outstanding Eastside Neighborhood.

Three Mile Munich Updates
There has been quite a bit of activity taking place at the Three Mile Munich Park recently. 75 Volunteers from automotive supplier Cooper Standard assisted in adding several features that will significantly enhance the park.

What’s Happening at Gateway Park?
It may not look like much right now, but Gateway Park, at the corner of Mack and Alter, is going to get an extreme makeover. For years dedicated volunteers have tried to keep that patch of earth free of weeds and full of flowers and perennials. But without an easy and reliable water source, the weeds have always thrived but the other plants haven’t.

You’ll see his hand in projects all over MorningSide - in the East Warren Tool Library, Featherstone Garden on Lakepointe, and in the public spaces that his nonprofit Motor City Grounds Crew has helped to maintain around the neighborhood. No good thing happens because of just one person, of course, but every good thing that happens takes hard work and leadership, and that’s what Aaron has brought to these projects.

An organic garden is a lot like a good marriage. If you avoid outside toxic influences and focus on helping each other grow, the result is something nourishing and lovely to behold. NIP Grant Offers Help With Home Repairs
Is your home in need of repairs that you can't afford? You may be eligible for financial help. The Neighborhood Improvement Grant (NIP) offers homeowners grants of up to $7,500 to pay for a variety of home repairs, including heating systems, water heaters, windows, roofing, gutters and downspouts, attic and wall insulation, and underground property sewer systems.
New Land Bank Housing Coming To Morningside
The Detroit Land Bank Authority (DLBA) is excited to announce the launch of a new pilot program in Morningside called "Rehabbed and Ready to Renovate." This program is a little different from its companion program, Rehabbed and Ready, which completely renovates vacant houses using philanthropic dollars, then sells them on the traditional housing market.
Repurposing vacant land for community vineyard
When you think of ways to repurpose vacant land in the city of Detroit, often Detroiters have heard one of the following: construction of affordable housing for low-income residents, a community garden for neighbors to grow their own produce, or even a pocket park for neighborhood children to enjoy. However, one idea that is new and recently implemented here in the Morningside community will surely become one of the recommendations for the vastness of vacant land we have here in Detroit.
